Three players from Bulgarian top-flight club CSKA Sofia have been suspended for three months for using a banned substance, the disciplinary committee of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee announced yesterday.

Captain Todor Yanchev and defenders Rumen Trifonov and Kostadin Stoyanov tested positive for the stimulant methylhexanamine after CSKA’s 1-0 win over city rivals Levski Sofia in late-October.

The three players were provisionally suspended on December 23 after the club doctor admitted to supplying them with the substance to help them lose weight.

Yanchev and Stoyanov are both Bulgarian internationals.
