The seventh round from the ASM Poiatti championship was held last weekend at the racetrack in Ta’ Qali.

In Autocross, Vince Farrugia (VW Polo) did well to finish first in the Class A final ahead of Joseph Grech (Fiesta), Ivan Birmingham (Suzuki Swift) and Patrick Cassar (Opel Corsa).

Cassar lost ground after an accident that also involved Melo Zammit on his Ford Escort Mk 4.

The mechanical problems forced Cassar to slow his pace in the final five laps.

Manuel Muscat (Opel Corsa) led the Class B nine-lap race from start to finish. He maintained a consistent pace and finished ahead of Christian Galea (Fiat Ritmo) who had to be alert all the time to stave off the challenge of Matthew Borg (Opel Nova).

Young Ryan Scerri followed in fourth place.

Motocross rider Carmelo Borg (Kawasaki 250cc) won three heats in Class A where all participants manoeuvered their bikes expertly on the damp track surface.

Borg produced the cleanest jumps to take the day’s honours. Clayton Camilleri (KTM) and Stefan Dimech (Honda CR) were second and third respectively.

Trevor Muscat dominated Class B on his KTM after winning all three heats in programme. He was followed by young Gozo MX rider Joseph Bigeni with Honda rider Chris Cauchi third.

Away from the circuit, there were some very important developments that concerned the motor sport organisation and its future.

During an extraordinary general meeting held recently, it was unanimously agreed that the association changes its name to Assoċjazzjoni Sport Muturi u Karozzi (ASMK) and the design of a new logo was also approved.

More importantly, members also voted in favour of the asso-ciation’s proposal to relocate to a nearby site in Ta’ Qali following the successful conclusion of talks with the relevant authorities.
