The Balzan FC nursery have just completed their pre-season preparations which saw their teams participate in overseas tournaments and the players receive expert advice from professional Italian coaches.
Following on from the visit of Juventus youth coach Fabbrizio del Rosso in the summer, Balzan recently hosted Riccardo Tummiati. Tummiati, who spent several years as a youth coach at AC Milan, conducted training sessions for the Balzan boys under the supervision of nursery head coach Silvan Ciscaldi.
Two Balzan squads – the U-9 and U-17 – recently travelled to Sicily to play in tournaments. The U-9s were runners-up after losing the final on penalties to a side from the Milan Academy.
Balzan’s U-17 team also left a positive impression, staying undefeated with two wins and a draw against Sicilian teams in friendly matches.
Balzan FC have invested heavily in their youth sector this year and engaged several new youth coaches and players in the off-season.
More investment in the Reds nursery is coming from Investors Mutual which is headed by Maltese-Australian businessman Anton Tagliaferro.
