Germany coach Joachim Loew says any player involved in the DFB-Pokal or Champions Lea-gue finals will be excused from a post-season tour of the USA.

Germany will travel to the United States at the end of May to play friendly matches against Ecuador, in Miami on May 29, and the USA, in Washington on June 2.

The trip comes just days after the Champions League final and only a week after the DFB-Pokal final in Berlin, and Loew does not want to overburden any of those players involved.

“We will leave out players who are in the cup or Champions League final, and maybe also players from foreign leagues,” he said.

“Many players have had short breaks in recent years and severely shortened pre-seasons, which was not ideal.”

His announcement was greeted by Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp, whose side are still in the hunt for a place in both finals.

“It’s the right and also an important decision,” he said.

“We are all quick to make demands of the lads, but they also need the time to recover.”
