Nationalist Party leader Simon Busuttil has to come clean on a number of issues and cannot keep avoiding a reply on legitimate questions, the Labour Party said yesterday.

Dr Busuttil was obliged to explain the reason why a PN-led government had “absolved” the Freeport from paying €800,000 to compensate the Birżebbuġa local council for the environmental impact of this development on the area.

The PL also levelled criticism against the decision to grant a permit for a gas bottling facility in Bengħajsa by the PN administration. It said that back then concerns that this facility was in the flight path of the Luqa airport had been ignored, whereas Dr Busuttil was now on a crusade against a “much safer” LNG plant.

The PL also lashed out against the PN leader for allegedly receiving some €421,000 in contracts, including some by direct order, during the PN administration.

Instead of forging ahead with his scaremongering campaign, Dr Busuttil should explain why successive PN administrations treated the south of the island as a dumping site, the PL said.
