Nationalist Party deputy leader Simon Busuttil yesterday described the Government’s customer care as “the biggest defect of this Administration” and said he chose to enter the political scene to make it more caring.

I am shocked and disgusted by the oil commission scandal

“I am the first one to admit that this government focused too much on the bigger picture and sometimes ignored the justified demands of the electorate,” he said, pledging that a new PN government would listen and care more about people’s concerns.

“I hope that as Deputy Prime Minister of a new PN government I will give my best to change this trend and make the PN a more listening government,” he said during a televised press conference organised by the Broadcasting Authority.

Admitting the PN might be paying the price for giving little attention to the electorate’s personal concerns, Dr Busuttil said this was no reason to make a change for the worse by electing Labour.

He said despite all the mistakes, including raising ministers’ salaries and the public transport reform, the PN still changed this country into a modern society and built a sound economy, which continued to grow despite the turmoil in the rest of the eurozone.

“During the past year, as the Prime Minister’s special delegate I heard many people and passed on their complaints to ministers to address their situation,” he said.

On the other hand, he said a Labour government was synonymous with economic stagnation and rising unemployment.

While the electorate might be tempted to try change, the risk of stalling the country once again was too high.

Dr Busuttil said he was “shocked and disgusted” by the oil commission scandal, saying these things should not happen.

“However, the scandal showed the difference between the PN and Labour, he said.

Stating that the number of undecided voters seem to be “the highest ever” he hoped these would choose in favour of the Prime Minister to keep the country on the right track.
