Having been a driver on Maltese roads for many years now, I have constantly seen the increase in the number of vehicles.

There were some, or rather a few, attempts to bring congestion in check, however lately it appears that instead of trying to ease this congestion, someone with infinite wisdom decided to start placing bus lanes everywhere, such as in Sliema and now also at Msida.

No sooner had these bus lanes been introduced that there was a very visible increase in traffic jams.

A case in point is at the Sliema Strand, where, irrespective of what hour you pass by, what with the bus lane and the single lane that is left for us mortals to drive on, there is always a traffic jam.

These problems are further compounded by the excessive number of traffic lights that were installed within such a short distance of each another.

I would be very happy to know where these ideas originate. They are surely leaving us ‘worse off’.

With the quantity of cars ever on the rise, I suggest that some fresh thinking, outside the box, be implemented.
