Former Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann does not believe German football is the dominant force in the game despite Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund playing in the Champions League final.

Lehmann thinks the depth of other leagues is stronger than the Bundesliga where Bayern have been the team to beat this season.

After beating Dortmund by 25 points to the title they also defeated their rivals 2-1 Saturday night.

“It’s comparable to the final three years ago between Manchester United and Chelsea where everybody thought ‘oh the English are so strong now they will dominate the Champions league for years to come’ and it didn’t happen,” Lehmann said.

“I think these two teams who we have seen on Saturday are the cream of German football. Then you look at the table you see the gap between the top two teams and the others in terms of points is huge.

“You can’t put this quality on to the whole league in Germany.

“On Saturday, we saw the difference in quality. Particularly at the end of the game Dortmund weren’t organised any more and Bayern Munich just took their chances.”

Lehmann also predicts a difficult start at Bayern for former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola who replaces Jupp Heynckes next season.

Bayern can complete the treble next weekend if they add the German Cup to the Bundesliga and Champions League.

“He will be asking himself ‘what am I doing here? How can I im-prove?’ It’s going to be a very exciting and difficult year for him,” Lehmann said.
