Two Maltese wines by Emanuel Delicata were recently awarded bronze medals at two foreign competitions, bringing the winemaker’s total international medal count up to 85.

The wines in question are the 2010 Grand Vin de Hauteville Moscato DOK Malta Liquer Wine and the 2012 vintage Victoria Heights Chardonnay.

The former wine won the bronze honour at the Challenge International du Vin held in Bordeaux, France. This wine has only been around for less than two years and is the second vintage produced by Delicata.

The contest is the largest international wine competition organised in France and brought together over 800 judges to assess 4,360 wines from 29 countries.

The 2012 Victoria Heights Chardonnay competed in the International Wine Challenge held in London. The official tasting note from the judges describes this wine, which is made exclusively from Gozo-grown Chardonnay grapes, as: “Fresh cut apples on the nose followed by a crisp lemony palate; very big style, best with freshly grilled fish.”

The International Wine Challenge, which has reached its 30th edition, is accepted as the world’s finest and most meticulously judged competition. Judges use blind tasting and assess each wine for its faithfulness to style, region and vintage.

Each medal-winning wine is tasted on at least three separate occasions by a minimum of 10 judges.

The Victoria Heights wine brand was created and launched by Delicata 12 years ago with the 2001 vintage. Since then, it has gone from strength to strength, winning several medals.
