For the first time, a Maltese competitor made it to the semi-finals of the World Bowls – Champion of Champions Competition, held in Cyprus last month. Carmen Spiteri won a bronze medal in the tournament which featured participants from 35 countries. Spiteri lost to New Zealand’ Sandra Keith, the eventual winner, in the semis. The Australia-based Spiteri is currently in Malta to take part in exhibition matches and other media events. This week, Spiteri, her husband and coach Edward, Malta Lawn Bowls Federation (MLBF) president Anthony Debono and secretary David Abdilla paid a courtesy visit to President George Abela at the San Anton Palace.
