More than one-fifth of Britons have booked time off work between the Easter and Royal Wedding Bank Holiday Weekends, according to a survey.

The poll by YouGov for online travel retailers lastminute.com found that 23 per cent of working adults had booked annual leave to take advantage of the potential 11-day holiday. But 13 per cent of respondents said that their employers had not allowed them to take holiday then.

One in 10 said that they were using the Royal Wedding weekend to go on a “proper” holiday in the UK or overseas.

The survey found that 45 per cent of people were not planning to watch the celebrations, with the figure rising to 60 per cent in Scotland.

Thirty-two per cent of respondents were definitely planning to watch the ceremony, with the rest undecided. Nearly twice as many women than men were planning to watch the ceremony, at 41 per cent compared with 22 per cent.

A separate survey by ComRes for the Independent on Sunday and Sunday Mirror placed the percentage of people planning to watch the Royal Wedding on television at 48 per cent, with those not planning to at 38 per cent.

They similarly found the proportion of women, at 62 per cent, planning to watch to be significantly higher than the number of men, at 35 per cent.
