A Briton suspected of trying to break into his own car was charged with possession of drugs instead after the police found cocaine and ecstasy in the vehicle.

The 31-year-old pleaded not guilty to trafficking and possession of 10 sachets of cocaine and 100 ecstasy pills not for his personal use on Sunday.

He also denied committing the crimes within 100 metres of a place frequented by young people and driving a car without insurance and road licence.

Magistrate Ian Farrugia granted him bail against a deposit of €2,000 and a personal guarantee of €3,000.
