Inspire, the foundation for inclusion, recently hosted British High Commissioner Rob Luke to brief him about the foundation’s work in the disability sector through its two centres in Marsascala and Bulebel.

Accompanied by Inspire CEO Nathan Farrugia and members of the senior management team, Mr Luke was given an explanation about the various services the foundation offers to over 1,000 children and adults with various disabilities.

Through its well-equipped therapy centre, Inspire offers programmes varying from hydrotherapy, therapeutic horseback riding and sessions in the multi-sensory theatre. This theatre is one of the better-equipped sensory environments in Europe and provides a wide selection of sensory experiences.

The High Commissioner also toured Inspire’s Bulebel premises, where a number of educational programmes take place, catering for clients with intellectual disabilities, autism and other special needs.

The programmes revolve around the individual needs of clients to ensure that specialised therapies, education and support are provided to allow for each child to develop to their full potential and become as independent as possible.

Mr Farrugia explained Inspire’s adult training programme, which caters for clients over 16 years of age, offering a number of programmes that focus on practical skills development, aiming to eventually lead to employment opportunities and greater independence.

“We always welcome the opportunity to show how our staff and volunteers are contributing to changing the lives of the people we help. We hope the High Commission will continue to be a keen supporter of our work in future, as it has been in the past,” said Mr Farrugia.

Mr Luke said: “I had heard a lot about Inspire’s work, and was delighted to accept their invitation to visit. The team’s commitment to improve the lives of those with disabilities and their families is hugely impressive.

“Most encouraging is the spirit of partnership, inclusion and action. Nathan and the team deserve huge credit for all that they have achieved. We will continue to be strong supporters of Inspire.”
