BOV Premier League leaders Balzan will have to do without the services of Clive Brincat for their next fixture as yesterday he was handed a one-match ban by the Malta Football Association (MFA) Disciplinary Commissioner.

Defender Brincat collected his fourth yellow card on Sunday during the 5-2 romp of strugglers Pembroke Athleta that saw Balzan maintaining a slim one-point lead at the top of the league standings ahead of Hibernians.

Brincat will skip Sunday’s match against Floriana.

The Greens will be without midfielder Steven Pisani for the clash against the leaders as he was also slapped with a one-match suspension as a result of a fourth yellow card.

Five other Premier League players were also on the suspensions’ list yesterday – all banned for one match.

Sliema Wanderers, who play neighbours Gżira United on Saturday at the Hibernians Stadium, will have to find replacements for duo Mark Scerri and Stefano Biancardi while St Andrew’s face Tarxien Rainbows, also on Saturday, without Godwin McKay.

The other two players to serve suspension this weekend will be Leonardo Aguirre (Valletta) and Predrag Jovic (Birkirkara).
