Deportivo: Deportivo La Coruna returned to the Spanish top flight yesterday after their 2-1 success at Huesca assured them the Second Division title with one game to play. The side from Galicia in the north-western corner of Spain were relegated last season but are top of the Second Division with 88 points and cannot be caught by Celta and Valladolid with just one game to go.

Fahey: Keith Fahey’s Euro 2012 dream ended on Saturday when he was sent home from the Ireland squad because of injury. The Birmingham midfielder has been struggling with a groin problem since he joined up with the squad.Paul Green, who is currently unattached, was drafted in as a replacement.

Zidan: Mohamed Zidan’s third spell with Mainz is nearing its conclusion after contract talks broke down, reports Kicker magazine. The Egypt international joined the club in January from champions Borussia Dortmund, but an option to extend his contract until 2014 has not been taken by Mainz, who have instead proposed a rolling one-year deal.

US women: US women’s football coach Pia Sundhage named an 18-player lineup for the London Olympics yesterday, with captain Christie Rampone set for a record fourth Olympics as the Americans try to defend gold. A total of 11 players return from the US squad that won the 2008 Beijing Olympics title.
