Brian Galea placed 37th out of 80 competitors in an ISSF World Cup trap event, held in the Azeri capital of Baku yesterday.

Galea was off to a very encouraging start after hitting a 25-straight in the opening three rounds, rounding up with a day-one total of 72 from 75 points.

His performance dipped slightly on the second day as Galea produced scores of 22 and 21 in the last two rounds for an overall tally of 115 out of 125 hits.

San Marino’s Gian Marco Berti won the gold medal. He finally edged past Erik Varga, of Slovakia, in a long shoot-off after the two finalists smashed 14 targets.

The ISSF World Cup event continues tomorrow with the men’s double trap event where Malta will be represented by William Chetcuti.
