A Maltese woman joined another 99 breast cancer survivors from 19 countries who climbed to the summit of 4,165-metre Breithorn mountain in Switzerland.

Gertrude Abela, the president of Breast Care Support Group Europa Donna Malta, joined the climb.

To reach the summit, the climbers were connected by a rope linking them to the guide, also symbolising the solidarity necessary to achieve the highest aims. The climb took longer than expected after the last cable car was struck by lightning the night before and was out of use, leaving the climbers to complete the journey on foot.
