A 16-year-old boy, charged with stealing ring neck parrots, chipmunks, shotguns and farm equipment, has been jailed for one month after breaching bail conditions given to him in that case.

The boy from Cospicua, who was 15 at the time of the alleged crime, had been arraigned last year together with two other men, Victor Degabriele, 26, also from Cospicua and Raymond Gatt, 35, of Birżebbuġa.

Mr Gatt admitted to stealing the animals and equipment and was given a two-year jail term suspended for four years and fined €233, while Mr Degabriele was remanded in custody at the time. The boy denied the charges. Last week, the boy was charged with breaching his bail conditions when he failed to adhere to his curfew and was caught by the police.

Magistrate Miriam Hayman jailed him for a month after taking into consideration his admission and the fact this was not the first time he had done something similar.

Police Inspector Fabian Fleri prosecuted while lawyer Michael Sciriha appeared for the boy.
