Held over three days, the IIG Bank Club Championship is the highlight of the Royal Malta Golf Club’s yearly calendar.

After the first two days, Nicky Beck had a three-shot lead over J.J. Micallef and Andy Borg.

Hot on their heels, a further three and four shots adrift, were Danny Holland, Quint van Beek and Ruud Critien.

Beck lost his way on the final day as he pitched his ball in a hedge on the 10th and was unable to take a drop ‘no nearer the hole’.

This forced him to take the second option with Beck having to go back to where he had played the shot and take a penalty drop.

Borg and Micallef remained level until the seventh hole when the latter double bogeyed the eighth, putting Borg in the lead.

On the 12th, Borg produced a 40-feet putt off the green which placed him four ahead and, at this late stage in the match, in an unassailable position.

Borg ended the three-day competition with a score of 206, Micallef totalled 212 and Holland 213.

Running concurrently was the Centenary Plate for the lesser players and those who did not make the cut for the best 20 on the final day of the championship

Stephen Jones was the winner with Hans Klotz and Nigel Stibbs finishing second and third respectively.

Stibbs, the chief executive of IIG Bank, presented the prizes to the winners at the end of the competition.
