Alex Borg is through to the second round of the Northern Ireland Open, currently being played in Belfast.

The Maltese professional player yesterday had the better of Thailand’s Dechawat Poomjaeng 4-2.

Borg won the opening frame but Poomjaeng hit back to take the next two frames, compiling a run of 81 in the third.

But, the Maltese player kept his composure to win the following three frames and wrap up victory.

Borg will be back in action tomorrow when he plays against Kurt Maflin. The Norwegian yesterday beat China’s Zhang Yong 4-2.
