Rome reports have just announced on the internet that the long-suffering Catholic priest Ernest Simoni, who was for long condemned to imprisonment with hard labour under communist leader Enver Hoxha, is being made a cardinal by Pope Francis at the next consistory of the Catholic church.

Maltese Dominican priest Fr George Frendo, OP, is at the same time being made an archbishop in Albania.

These are certainly positive developments for Albania, a country where Catholics are in a minority, together with Orthodox and Muslim majority adherents.
