The Sunday Times of Malta has lodged an official request to the Office of the Prime Minister under the Freedom of Information Act on Lou Bondi’s consultancy contract.

The Prime Minister’s head of communications has so far declined to give information about the financial package and other benefits awarded by direct order to the former PN employee and PBS presenter to act as a consultant to the OPM on national celebrations.

Despite repeated requests for details on Mr Bondi’s contract, the OPM has refuse to give any details, sating it is not normal practice to publish the terms of his engagement.

However, in case of other consultants, including that of Leslie Skipper – a former BBC journalist – the OPM has made public details of their engagement.

The OPM has so far only said Mr Bondi receives less than €70,000 a year.

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has repeatedly claimed that Mr Bondi’s job is a clear example of Labour’s pledge of meritocracy.

Mr Bondi has also declined to reply to any questions from this newspaper.
