A 23-year-old man who drunkenly assaulted two police officers over the weekend has been given a five-month jail term, suspended for a year.

On Monday, Jason Emanuel Bugeja from St Paul’s Bay admitted assaulting and slightly injuring the policemen when he bit one and kicked the other after they arrested him early on Sunday morning.

He apologised for his actions, committed while under the influence of alcohol.

Magistrate Gabriella Vella heard Mr Bugeja was beaten during a boat party on Saturday night.

The fight continued on land and police arrested Mr Bugeja, who felt this was unfair and attacked them.

The magistrate noted the man had a clean record and had cooperated. Police Inspector Joseph Busuttil prosecuted.
