A boat builder was yesterday jailed for eight and a half years and fined €23,000 after the police found 27 blocks of cannabis resin in a field in Marsascala.

Angelo Fenech, 39, from Żejtun but living in Marsascala, was spotted by the police acting suspiciously on January 16, 2008 in a field in Ta’ Rumi Street in the limits of his hometown. Officers found a bucket and a sack containing 16 blocks of cannabis resin.

They later found another 11 blocks wrapped in plastic hidden in the same field.

Mr Fenech admitted to drug trafficking and aggra­vated possession.

Lawyers Giannella de Marco and Michael Sciriha appeared for Mr Fenech.
