Tourism Minister Karmenu Vella does not plan to remove Air Malta CEO Peter Davies but will leave the decision to the airline’s new board.

“This will be up to the board to decide but at face value I don’t see the need for a shake-up in the top management,” he told the media during the first meeting of the airline’s new board.

He said the current management had been given a specific assignment – to restructure the airline – and this task had not yet been concluded.

“The board will analyse the progress and, if anything, there will be a change of tactics rather than policy, direction or posts,” he added, when asked whether Mr Davies would be kept on until his contract expires next year.

Mr Vella thanked the outgoing board for their service and expressed his gratitude to the new board for accepting to be part of the airline.

The new board, which is chaired by businessman Ray Fenech, was yesterday shown a presentation by Air Malta’s management about the airline’s progress.
