I refer to the letter by David Demajo from St Julian’s, entitled Reduced Traffic Without Bendy Buses (August 31). In fact, many are those who have noticed, especially those who frequent Balluta Square or go for a stroll on the promenade from Spinola to Għar id-Dud, that the traffic is now moving smoothly throughout the day. Even Arriva drivers on the normal buses may have noticed this. We have spoken with two of them and they agree that the bendy buses were occasionally obstructing the traffic flow as now they are leaving bus stops quicker and moving faster.

In a way, this may lead to an improvement in Arriva’s services. Drivers of private cars, self-drive cars as well as sightseeing buses have noticed that in the stretch that includes St Andrew’s, Paceville terminus, St George’s Road, George Borg Olivier Street, Main Street and all along Tower Road, the traffic problem seems to have eased for now. Of course, we have to remember that schools have not yet opened but if bendy buses stay out of service the situation looks promising.
