Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said yesterday that “there can be little doubt now” about the Marsa power station being the main source of the larger particles of black dust in Fgura and its surroundings.

Answering a parliamentary question by Opposition Whip Joe Mizzi, the Prime Minister said the eventual solution of the problem would be the decommissioning of the power station.

In the meantime Mepa was discussing with Enemalta Corporation, as the operator, to try to identify any possible intermediate solutions that could be brought into play.

Any such solutions would have to make financial sense when one considered the power station’s remaining short lifespan.
