Fredu Zerafa, 91, shed a tear yesterday when Joseph Muscat walked into the living room of the Sliema home for the elderly where he lives.

“I never met him before… I’m glad I met him. He is working so hard for peace in this country,” Mr Zerafa told The Times soon after Mr Muscat and his wife Michelle left.

The Muscats were visiting Charella residential home where they met residents and toured the building as part of the election campaign. Ms Muscat kept being pulled aside by residents and staff, who congratulated her and her husband.

Mr Zerafa, from Paola, told people sitting beside him that he was emotional since this was probably the last general election he would witness.
