Birkirkara will be without three players for their BOV Premier League clash with Hibernians on Sunday after captain Paul Fenech, striker Moises Avila Perez and Shawn Bajada were suspended yesterday.

Avila Perez was handed a two-match ban after receiving a straight red card for violent play in the dying stages of Birkirkara’s goalless draw against Mosta last weekend.

Bajada was handed a one-match ban after being dismissed for two yellow cards in the Mosta game while Fenech suffered the same punishment after collecting his fourth caution in Sunday’s match.

Four other Premier League players were handed one-match bans yesterday.

These are Ħamrun Spartans defender Massimo Grima, Mosta midfielder Sheldon Grech, Qormi defender Roderick Sammut and Valletta forward William Barbosa.

Meanwhile, the tumultous clash between third division sides Mdina Knights and Fgura United on Sunday, which ended two-all, resulted in hefty suspensions for two players and coach Eric Schembri.

Schembri, of Mdina Knights, was hit with a 10-match touchline ban for remarks he passed towards referee Kevin Azzopardi at the end of the game.

Fgura United player Carl Calvagna was suspended for six matches after he assaulted an opponent.

Mdina’s Adrian Gatt was also handed a five-match ban for making disparaging comments towards the referee.

Gatt was shown a red card after the end of the game.
