It emerged last night that Premier League club Birkirkara had hired a private jet to fly their players back from Albania ahead of the rest of the Malta contingent who are due to arrive this morning.

The seven Birkirkara players who formed part of Pietro Ghedin’s squad for yesterday’s friendly were expected to land in Malta before midnight after the MFA accepted the club’s request to release their players soon after the match.

“They will rest well and have a good regeneration session tomorrow (today),” Paul Zammit, the Bir-kirkara coach, told Times of Malta yesterday.

“We planned it well but this was only possible thanks to the incredible effort of the Birkirkara FC administration.”

Birkirkara, three points clear of Valletta at the top, are preparing for their match against Sliema Wanderers on Sunday.
