Lazio have confirmed the appointment of former Argen-tina and Chile manager Mar-celo Bielsa as their new head coach.

The 60-year-old has been out of a job since August 2015 after he resigned as manager of Marseille but will officially join the Biancocelesti on Saturday.

Lazio sacked Stefano Pioli in April and named their former striker Simone Inzaghi as boss until the end of the season.

Inzaghi, 40, guided the club to eighth place in Serie A but their failure to win a place in the Europa League next season has resulted in a move for the experienced Bielsa.

Reports yesterday claimed Bielsa could be named as Gerardo Martino’s replacement as Argentina coach – a position the former Athletic Bilbao boss held between 1998 and 2004.

However, Lazio released a statement on their official website saying they had already deposited the contract of Marcelo Bielsa and his staff.
