Duncan Bezzina leapfrogged Alex Borg into the top position of the national ranking list after reaching the final of the second tournament in the series this season, organised by the Malta Billiards and Snooker Association.

Bezzina lost the title match to Brian Cini 5-2 but still went top of the provisional rankings after reaching the 2,820-point mark, 20 ahead of Borg who is currently engaged in the Northern Ireland Open.

Cini, of St Joseph BC (Ż#ebbuġ#), lies third on 2,650.

The final, played in Mellieħ#a, saw Cini racing to a 4-0 lead at  the interval. When play resumed, Bezzina halved the deficit, after claiming the fifth and sixth frames, but Cini then won the game he required to make sure of the title.

The presentation of trophies was conducted by Vincent Pisani on behalf of the association. The referee was Joe Debono.

The association’s first ranking tournament of the season was played in October.

On that occasion, Borg, of Juventutis Domus, beat Cini 5-2 in the final.
