When are our politicians going to put the common good above partisan politics? It is true that once a government has been democratically elected it has the right to govern, but it is always better to seek consensus.

Shouldn’t issues such as the citizenship scheme, irregular immigration and the Civil Unions Bill be considered above partisan politics?

It was heartening to learn that Labour MP Marlene Farrugia had insisted on a revision of the citizenship scheme. These are the type of politicians our country needs; although faithful to their party, they openly criticise what they feel should be corrected for the good of society as a whole.

I appeal to all politicians to first seek the common good and not to be enslaved to the party they represent.
