Meet Beyonce, the smallest puppy in the world.

When she was born she could curl up on the end of a teaspoon.

And now at two weeks old she sleeps on the top of an iPhone.

But it is not just Beyonce’s size that is incredible, her story is amazing too.

For when the Dachshund mix was born her heart wasn’t beating... so vets had to give her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

The tale began when Beyonce’s pregnant mother Casey was abandoned by her owner.

The eight-month-old Dachshund managed to survive on the streets for a while until she was picked up by an animal control unit in Northern California.

Casey was then scheduled to be spayed and have her puppies aborted. The alternative was euthanasia because animal control agencies do not have enough money to support litters.

But after being examined by a vet, it was decided that Casey was too far along to have her pregnancy terminated.

So on March 8 she gave birth to a litter of five.

Tiny Beyonce was the last one delivered and was stillborn without a heartbeat. She weighed less than 28 grams.

Vets battled to save her life and finally managed to revive her through chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

Now she is a healthy, tiny little thing weighing just 113g and is living under the watchful eye of The Grace Foundation, an El Dorado Hills animal rescue centre, who named her after the singing star.

Executive director Beth DeCaprio said: “Casey and her pups have been very lucky. Hundreds of dogs are euthanised because they’re a mom with puppies.”

The foundation says Beyonce will be ready for adoption in about two weeks.

It has submitted an application to Guinness World Records for the world’s smallest dog.
