An Italian court will hold a hearing in October to decide whether or not Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi should stand trial for tax fraud on top of three other trials in which he is already a defendant.

A preliminary investigations judge in Milan, Maria Vicidomini, yesterday set an October 18 date for the start of the hearing in a tax fraud inquiry involving television distribution rights by one of Berlusconi’s companies.

The 74-year-old tycoon prime minister is suspected along with eleven others including his son Pier Silvio and his long-time confidant, Fedele Confalonieri, who is also the chairman of Berlusconi’s business empire Mediaset.

The inquiry revolves around a Mediaset subsidiary, Mediatrade-RTI.
