Fourteen-year-old Fenella Bennett, from the Royal Lymington Yacht Club in Hampshire, won the 2013 Euromed Malta Championships yesterday, giving Great Britain the first title in the event’s 14-year history.
A record entry of 145 participants from ten countries contested this year’s Euromeds.
After nine races, with seven to count, the top three in each category were:

Optimist Cadet (38 entries 1. Demetrio Sposato (ITA); 2. Jack Satariano (MLT); 3. Giorgia Cingolani (ITA).
Optimist Novice (nine entries 1. Megan Ferry (MLT); 2. Neil Farrugia Vella (MLT); 3. Saul Vassallo (MLT).
Laser Radial (7 entries 1. Justin Busuttil (MLT); 2. Maya Podesta (MLT); 3. Roberto Briffa (MLT).
Laser 4.7 (12 entries 1. Semen Sukhno (RUS); 2. Robbie King (GBR); 3. Edward Fleri Soler (MLT).
The Mediterranean Bank was the main sponsor of the 2013 Euromeds, held under the patronage of the Malta Sailing Federation.
All races were held off Mellieħa Bay between Thursday and yesterday. The Seabank Resort+Spa was the championships’ official hotel while the Maxima Lido housed the race office.
The Euromed Championships were again organised by the Malta Young Sailors Club with the co-operation of Kunsill Malti għall-iSport and the Mellieħa Local Council.
