A man claiming to be a fundraiser for Id-Dar tal-Providenza who is knocking on doors to say residents have won €2,000 through a lottery organised for its benefactors is a fraud, the charity said.

The Siġġiewi home said it was receiving reports that a well-dressed man was telling people to give him €200, and to give him their name and identity card number so he could arrange for their claim.

In a statement, Id-Dar tal-Providenza said there was no such lottery for its benefactors and it never gave permission for collection of donations from households.

It appealed to people to pass on information to the police or the home by calling 2146 4951 or e-mailing info@dartalprovidenza.org.

Donations can be made at the home, at its office behind the old market in St Paul’s Street, Valletta, or at www.dartalprovidenza.org.
