A thought-provoking installation in Valletta city centre is forcing people to ponder their future hopes and dreams. As part of The City Speaks exhibition, produced by the British Council and Islamic social empowerment NGO Maslaha, a large blackboard has been set up in Republic Street, opposite the law courts, inviting people to finish the sentence “Before I die I want to...” Results have ranged from the profound to the ridiculous, including “I want to become a leek”, “I want to live”, “I want to see Torino FC win the Champions’ League” and “I’d better prepare my will”. The British Council and Maslaha have set up more than 50 Before I Die walls in over 10 languages in more than 20 countries. As part of the project, an exhibition showing how art can be used to stimulate thought, enable the expression of emotion and change perspectives is open at St James Cavalier, Valletta, until March 17.
