A project with a vision as large as the world we live in, BeMixed was launched in November 2011 by Christophe Ladret and Daniel Talma. Based in Gozo, the Frenchman and Dutchman set up BeMixed to explore new ways of collaborating with other musicians and writing unique musical pieces.

Uploading basic tracks they had written and recorded onto the BeMixed website, the two musicians, one an accomplished percussionist and drummer, the other a talented producer and Chapman Stick player, invited singers and musicians from anywhere in the world to let loose their creative juices, add their parts to the original tracks and send them back.

The results of the first experiment, hence Reel 1, have been released in three phases. The first three complete tracks were published last June, followed by a further three tracks in September.

The final four songs making up Reel 1 were published this month, bringing to a close the first collection of songs – featuring contributions from the US, the UK, France, Lithuania, Holland and Malta – that will eventually form part of an album called A Transatlantic Pact.

Meanwhile, the basic tracks for Reel 2 have already been uploaded and are available online.
