The Irish Emerald Society in Malta will be holding a dinner and dance with live Irish music at the Preluna Hotel, Sliema, on Saturday to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.

“You don’t have to be Irish to enjoy this special day and lots of Maltese and other nationalities will be joining in to celebrate,” Emerald Society chairperson Pat Staff said.

Tickets for the St Patrick’s Day dinner and dance cost €35 and the price includes welcome drink and canapés, five-course dinner, half a bottle of wine and water. Music will be provided by a band from Dublin.

The Emerald Society has been active in encouraging the enjoyment of traditional Irish music recently. Last month, it held an informal music session at The Dubliner in St Julian’s and Ms Staff said that “despite it being a cold and windy night, lots of people turned up and the craic was great”.

The society is calling out to anyone interested in getting involved with informal music sessions. “Again, you don’t have to be Irish to join in, but if you enjoy music, want to learn more about Celtic music, and play an instrument or sing at any level, then maybe you should think about contacting us,” Ms Staff said.

For information about joining the informal music sessions call Jacqui on 9962 3792, and for the St Patrick’s Day dinner and dance call Ms Staff on 9926 3378.
