Bayern Munich’s hunger for titles will only grow in the years to come, according to their director of sport Matthias Sammer.

Despite sweeping the board in Germany in the last two seasons, and winning the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup – not to mention the World Cup for several players – they remain on course for even more silverware in 2015.

A third straight Bundesliga title should be wrapped up “as soon as possible” in the words of Sammer, while they are on course to defend their DFB-Pokal crown.

Winning back the Champions League crown is their biggest aim and Sammer sees no reason why any of the Bavarian club’s players are going to sit back on the success they have already had in recent years.

“Our players are truly fantastic,” he said in an interview.

“For as long as this team is still capable of performing, their hunger is not going to get any smaller.

“That’s because the titles they have won have led to them developing something of an addiction for success.

“The players have realised that the best feeling around is to be successful.”

Sammer added that there is “no way” top players ever get sated.

“Champions in whatever sport never settle for just one or two titles,” he added.

“They have a constant hunger for success, and this is what makes you a champion.”

2012 was a turning point for Bayern with defeat in the UEFA Champions League final to Chelsea coming only a week after they had seen Borussia Dortmund lift the Bundesliga title for the second season running.

“They were losers then, and now they are champions,” Sammer said of his squad.

“That made the team more open for changes and the willingness to work on the finer details so that our opponents always have the feeling that we’re a step ahead of them.”
