The Malta Bartending Academy, in collaboration with the Delicata winery, is raising the bar above mixology for the bartending profession in Malta by adding basic wine service to a bartender’s skill set.
All the academy’s certified bartending courses include theoretical and hands-on sessions about good bar practice, cocktail making, drinks and recipes, mixology, the art of modern garnishes, flair and free pouring.
However, given the popularity of wine and increasing consumer interest in home-grown Maltese wines, the comprehensive bartending syllabus has been made even more locally relevant by adding a bespoke wine service topic.
The wine study material has been compiled upon consultation with wine experts and with the support of Emmanuel Delicata Winemaker.
The winery’s online wine classes titled ‘In2Wine’ are also made accessible to all the academy’s students who are given the opportunity to continue their training through face time with Matthew Delicata, tutored private wine tastings and masterclasses as well as guided visits to Delicata family-run vineyards.
