Bank of Valletta has received the prestigious Financial Innovation Award for its mobile service, beating international rivals like Barclays and RBS.

Organised by the Institute of Financial Services, the award was presented to the bank’s CEO, Charles Borg, at a ceremony at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London.

Mr Borg said the bank had a very good reputation for “customer-centricity and innov-ation but it was a real thrill for us to beat world-renowned banks like Barclays and RBS”.

BOV Mobile won the innov-ation category in customer propositions and product design: payments. BOV Mobile is the combined mobile payments and app launched by the bank in March and is the first smartphone app to be launched by any of the banks operating in Malta.

The bank made it as a finalist in three other categories: Best Payments Initiative (for BOV Mobile), Most Innovative Application of Technology-Mobile Banking and Excellence in Regulation, Risk and Compliance.
