Bank of Valletta has decided make a donation to Dar Sagra Familja in Żabbar after an article yesterday outlining the home’s plight touched the hearts of the staff at the bank.

“The article could not have appeared at a better time,” a BOV spokesman said.

As part of its community relations project, BOV organises an annual dress-down day and collects €2 from each member of staff.

Clients are also told about the initiative and encouraged to donate money.

The total is divided among 12 NGOs as well as individuals with other projects.

The event took place in June but the collection was finalised recently and the bank was about to start assessing whom to help.

This year, BOV decided to support children in need and the case of Dar Sagra Familja fits the bill.

The home, which provides for 11 children, urgently needs a financial boost to pay for some €6,000 worth of repairs for structural damage to its building’s ceilings.

BOV deemed the home as the perfect recipient of funding and is expected to present the cheque to the home today.
