Banif Bank men’s team emerged on top in this season’s Banca Cup with an impressive record of four wins and one draw.

The Banca Cup, played at the Luxol Stadium, is an annual football tournament organised by KPMG. The event was a showcase of the best footballing talent from six different financial institutions.

After a hard-fought round robin stage and some nailbiting encounters, the Banif boys fought off the challenge of other teams to finish on top and take the trophy home.

The Banif team was made up of employees from the bank’s offices and branch network. It was a mix of seasoned veterans and exciting newcomers, such as top scorer Peter Sammut, that provided the winning formula.

This was the first Banca Cup success for the Banif team who finally broke their jinx after finishing runners-up in many previous editions.

“Winning the trophy is a significant achievement for us,” team captain Anthony Farrugia said.

“We’ve got a great team at the office and it’s just fantastic to be able to take this chemistry on to the football pitch.

“Let’s hope we can do it again next year.”
