I refer to Alfred Baldacchino’s well-referenced eye-opener about the link between glyphosate-based pesticides (Roundup etc.) and auto-immune disease, mucous membrane inflammation, cancer, brain degeneration (February 17).

How can we be so blinded by commercial interest to allow chemicals, toxic to plants, insects, fish and amphibians to be used on our food, to percolate into our water table?

Are we so blind to think that exposure to low concentrations over years is not equivalent to a lethal dose administered at one go, especially to still forming children? As a parent of teenage children and as a first-hand witness of the suffering caused by disease, I demand that our authorities ban Roundup and similar glyphosate pesticides and other chemicals.

Let’s pray the environment will eventually clean itself up, assuming studies claiming these chemical toxins have a high level of deactivation through hydrolysis or oxidation are correct.

Let vegetables have a few insect-chewed leaves and blemishes but let it not be poisoned. Let farmers mechanically remove weeds but let our water be clean.
