I read with interest the article referring to Ryanair and their baggage policy.

I fly to Malta regularly from various British airports. I have used Ryanair twice in the last six months from Leeds Bradford and I can confirm that they require you to sign an indemnity form for luggage.

On my most recent flight to Malta my suitcase was damaged. I reported the matter at Malta airport on landing and made a report to Ryanair.

My suitcase sustained an eight inch tear and the zip was ripped off. The suitcase is no longer fit for purpose and will have to be replaced. Ryanair stated in their reply: “We are not in a position to proceed with your claim as the damage to your luggage was minor. Ryanair will not accept responsibility for damage or loss of protruding baggage parts.”

Unfortunately, I fly Ryanair on my return trip. I will, however, book my next trip to Malta with a different carrier.
