Friends of Lily Allen have congratulated her on news that she has given birth to a baby girl following the heartache of two earlier miscarriages.

Coronation Street actor Charlie Condou took to Twitter to confirm the news that the singer had had her baby, writing: “She has indeed, a little girl.”

But a spokesman for the star – who now goes by her married name of Cooper – said he could not confirm anything.

The 26-year-old singer, who lives in Gloucestershire with her husband Sam Cooper, whom she married in the summer, has often said her dream is to live in the country and have babies. But she lost a baby six months into a pregnancy last year and suffered a miscarriage in 2008 when she was dating Chemical Brothers star Ed Simons.

Though a regular Twitter user, she has yet to post any updates on the birth of her child, although she did write “Totes amaze” on the site last Friday.

Among those who responded to the news on Twitter was BBC cricket correspondent Jonathan Agnew, who tweeted his congratulations to the couple.
