A one-year-old boy was serious injured yesterday when he fell out of a window from a second floor apartment in Santa Luċija.

The boy’s arm will have to be operated on and, although his injuries are serious, they are not life-threatening, police said.

The incident happened at about 8.30am in Triq Ħalib T-Tajr where the child lives. It is not clear how he fell but police said that, on realising, his mother and grandmother drove him to hospital.

The incident echoes one a year ago when, on September 17 2013, a one-year-old girl fell from a two-storey high balcony at a housing estate in Pembroke. She landed on a cobbled area in front of a block of flats in Pietru D’Armenia Street.

She also suffered serious injuries but her condition stabilised. Nobody was sure how that accident happened either, although some neighbours had said that it could be the toddler climbed on to a wicker chair on the balcony and toppled over.
