BMW recently released full details for its new X1 range, which will include an EfficientDynamics model emitting 119g/km of CO2.

The exterior has been sharpened up and tweaked in many subtle ways, but the facelifted model is still very much recognisable. Two new trim levels have been added in between BMW’s entry-level SE and range-topping M Sport options.

Aiming to cater for a greater portion of potential customers, the new Sport and xLine trim choices offer a slight bias towards sportiness and luxury respectively.

Two two-litre diesel engines are available in a total of four power outputs, with no petrol powerplants at all. The entry-level ‘18d’ engine uses a single variable intake geometry turbocharger to provide faster throttle response and quicker turbo pick-up.

It produces a peak of 141bhp and 236lb.ft for a 0-62mph dash time of 9.6 seconds in rear-wheel-drive ‘sDrive’ guise.

The ‘20d’ engine uses the same technology but produces 181 bhp and 280 lb.ft of torque, which ups the rear-drive version’s 0-62 mph pace considerably. It hits 62 mph in 7.8 seconds, while ‘xDrive’ four-wheel-drive versions take 0.3 seconds longer.
